Full Description:

This report, commissioned by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), presents findings from research on public perceptions of connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technologies. The results of this research stem from a series of interviews with test drivers who participated in a connected vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) demonstration and from a web-based survey meant to represent the U.S. population overall (18 years and older). In general, participants had mostly positive impressions of CAV technology, recognized many of their benefits, and were interested in using these new vehicle features. Respondents also expressed several concerns, including those related to trust, with these applications and were not willing to pay substantially more to own a vehicle equipped with these new technologies.
