The Center for Automotive Research (CAR) welcomes its newest hires Steve Polakowski, Ann Schlenker, and Tyler Harp effective January 10, 2023.
Steve Polakowski has been appointed Vice President of Business Development. Polakowski comes to CAR after more than 35 years in the automotive industry. Most recently, Polakowski served as president of ESG Automotive Inc. (now Cognizant Mobility), an engineering services provider. Prior to joining ESG, Polakowski held various roles at Magna International focused on advanced interiors/exteriors, electrical systems, and embedded product development. He has earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from General Motors Institute (Kettering University) and a Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the CAR team. Throughout my career, I have considered CAR a reputable and guiding voice in the industry. Being part of this group amid all the market and technology dynamics and recent leadership team additions is an exciting opportunity,” said Polakowski.
Ann Schlenker has been appointed Director of Government Research Programs. Schlenker previously served at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) as the Director of the Center for Transportation Research. Schlenker’s research portfolio delivered low-carbon solutions for transportation at the component, vehicle, and transportation system levels. Schlenker was awarded the Lifetime Distinguished Achievement Award from the Department of Energy Vehicle Technology Office in 2021. Prior to ANL, Schlenker had more than 30 years with Chrysler Engineering in Product Development, serving in a variety of executive positions.

Tyler Harp has joined our research team as an Industry Analyst. Previously, Harp was a market analyst for Allegis Global Solutions, providing labor market research and analysis for both US and global markets in support of numerous clients. Harp holds a Master of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Michigan Technological University.

Steve’s vast experience in automotive engineering and customer-focused engineering services make him ideal for our business development role. Ann has been recognized in the industry for her contributions to product development, regulatory affairs, and vehicle research at one of the premier US laboratories. Tyler brings research experience and a strong background in physics and economics to the CAR team,” said Alan Amici, President and CEO of CAR.
