Joe White

Joe White has followed the global auto industry for nearly
40 years. He writes the High Speed Rodeo newsletter on
Substack and co-hosts the At the Wheel podcast with Tu
Le, CEO of Sino Auto Insights.
In 1987, Joe started a 28-year career at the Wall Street
Journal, working as an auto beat reporter, Detroit bureau
chief and in editorial roles in Brussels and Washington,
DC.
Joe is co-author with Paul Ingrassia of Comeback: The
Fall and Rise of the American Automobile Industry. He and
Paul shared the Pulitzer Prize for beat reporting in 1993
and a Gerald Loeb award for their coverage of
management turmoil at General Motors.
In 2015, Joe joined as the transportation editor leading
coverage of planes, trains and automobiles. He later
became global automotive industry editor. He launched
and wrote the Reuters Auto File newsletter before retiring
from Reuters in 2024.
When he’s not writing or speaking about the auto
business, Joe is often under the hood of a 1961 Dodge
Town Wagon, or planning a road trip.
