Dr. Ryan Wolcott
Manager, Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM)
Toyota Research Institute
Dr. Ryan Wolcott is the Manager of the Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) team at Toyota Research Institute (TRI), leading the company’s overall localization and mapping program for automated vehicles. He joined TRI as a Research Scientist in 2016 from the Ford Motor Company where he had developed state-of-the-art approaches to localization and mapping for self-driving cars.
Dr. Wolcott’s research interests include large-scale SLAM optimization, semantic scene understanding and leveraging maps as a sensor for decision making. His research goals are to reduce the reliance on dense, highly-accurate 3D maps for automated vehicles.
Dr. Wolcott holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) from the University of Michigan.
