Ashwini Balasubramanian currently is the Director of Market Intelligence, Strategy & Sustainability at Martinrea International and is responsible for market intelligence, as well as corporate strategies driving global initiatives for all Business Units within the company. Over her nearly 18 year career, Ashwini has had extensive experience in leadership and engineering, serving as an Engineering Manager and Senior Engineering Supervisor for ZF North America, and a Vehicle Development and New Technology Team Leader for Toyota Technical Center. She has managed lab operations, negotiated outside test contracts, established processes for supplier changes, and managed global teams.

Ashwini holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from India, and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. She founded the Michigan Women’s Resource Group at ZF North America in 2013 which grew from 15 to 515 women in 6 years. Through Ashwini’s career, her innovation in the industry resulted in a 2012 patent titled “Headliners and Vehicles with Improved Speech Transmission Characteristics”. She was also named a “Rising Star,” in 2019 by Automotive News. Ashwini has held leadership positions in the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) serving as Co-Chair, for the Professional Development Conference, for 2017 & 2018 and led the Westside Affinity group for INFORUM Automotive Next, from 2018 to 2019. She is also currently serving as an Advisory Board member for CADIA (Center for Automotive Diversity & Inclusion).

Today, Ashwini continues her outreach to other inspiring individuals as a member of the Achieving Women Enterprise Foundation (AWE) and contributes to minority groups, supporting the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).
