Family Connection

A record number of Family Connection participants enjoyed several fun activities, including the opening pool party, and STEM activities hosted by Cooper Standard.  Each day began with a gathering breakfast so MBS family members could “connect” and explore some of what the Traverse City area has to offer.

Sunday, July 29

Golf Outing

2:00 pm – Wolverine Course

New for the 2018 Golf outing, we are including the opportunity for Family Connection partners to join the fun.  The annual golf outing will include two groupings; conference attendees who would like to be paired with other conference attendees, and separate groupings for attendees who want to golf with their Family Connection partners or any Family Connection program registrants who would like to be paired with same.  All golfers are invited to the BBQ dinner and will be eligible for prizes.

Pool Party

4:30 pm – Governors Pool

If you are bringing your children to the Grand Traverse Resort, stop by the Opening Day Family Pool Party when you arrive at the Resort. Food and beverage will be provided by the pool for families to connect and enjoy some free time before the conference officially begins.

Monday, July 30

8:45-9:00 AM – Tori Piersante from Traverse City Tourism will speak at the continental breakfast, and answer any questions about what Traverse City has to offer.

Painting with a Twist

10am – Noon (limit 30 per class)

Have family fun while discovering your inner artist. Come and enjoy step-by-step instruction with our experienced and enthusiastic local artists. We are offering two classes, one for children 12 and under and one for adults and older children. You’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind creation and a new found talent you’ll want to explore. We provide all painting supplies and artist instructions. No art experience is needed. Simply be ready to have a “Twisted “good time! We will be outdoors, under the yellow tent, unless the weather dictates otherwise.

Tall Ship Ice Cream Cruise (cash bar)

The Village at Grand Traverse Commons Tour, Shopping & Lunch

The Village at Grand Traverse Commons is a community within the community of Traverse City.  What used to be the Traverse City State Hospital is now a series of shops. Within its walls are countless stories and rich history which can be toured in different ways.

Join us for a 1 hour Walking Tour of The Village, formerly known as the Traverse City State Hospital. You will learn about Dr. Munson’s “Beauty is Therapy” theory on patient care, purpose of the architecture and more. We will explore one of the remaining unrenovated buildings and end with a walk through an amazing brick steam tunnel built in 1883. Immediately following the tour we will have a wonderful lunch at Trattoria Stella, and end our trip with shopping in some of the unique shops.

STEM Activity, Sponsored by Cooper Standard

9:30 am- 11:30 am

Bring your children to the second STEM Program for children of MBS attendees. Designed to introduce children ages 8 to 15 to careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), the program includes a science fair, as well as career talks to introduce children to the industry their parents work in. The event, sponsored by Cooper Standard, hopes to inspire and excite participants about STEM careers, which continue to be the most in demand jobs.
