CAR Research

The Center for Automotive Research's reputation for providing leading, thought-provoking, impactful research was established during its history at the University of Michigan and has been further refined as a standalone nonprofit organization since 2003. CAR's research is led by Dr. Sean McAlinden, Executive Vice President of Research and Chief Economist.

CAR's research client base is highly diversified. Clients include federal; state and local government organizations; automotive manufacturers and suppliers; universities; and industry associations.

A sample of current clients is: Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers; Toyota Motor North America, Inc.; Michigan Economic Development Corporation; U.S. Departments of Commerce & Labor; and the Mott Foundation.

How to Sponsor CAR Research and Whom to Contact

Research at CAR can be sponsored in three ways:

  • Direct research contract funding
  • Participation in CAR's Affiliates Program or
  • Participation in a specific program developed around a research core service activity, such as the Automotive Communities Partnership, or the Program for Labor and Automotive Education. Read more
