Albert A. (“Al”) Koch serves as Vice Chairman and Managing Director at AlixPartners LLP, the global, multi-industry consulting firm known today for its deep expertise in enterprise improvement; digital; investigations, disputes and risk support; and leadership and organizational consulting; as well as turnaround and restructuring. He has been with AlixPartners since 1995.

Mr. Koch is perhaps best known for his key role in the dramatic turnaround of General Motors following the global financial crisis of a decade ago, where he served as the automaker’s Chief Restructuring Officer, reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors, in what became the largest industrial turnaround in history.

Other senior-management positions he has held include: CFO of Kmart Corp., President and CEO of Polar Corp., CEO of Polar Tank Trailer LLC., Chairman, President and CEO of Champion Enterprises Inc., and CFO of Oxford Health Plans Inc.

His consulting work at AlixPartners has also included assignments at Eastman Kodak Co. and American International Group (AIG) Inc., among other household names across many industries.

Mr. Koch also served as a partner at Questor Management Co., a private-equity firm, and has served on the boards of directors at Tecumseh Products Co., SPX Corp., and Champion Enterprises Inc.

Last year, Mr. Koch served on Detroit Public Schools Transition Manager Judge Steven Rhodes’ transition team, in its efforts to transition DPS back towards local control.

A CPA, Mr. Koch holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and an honorary Doctor of Business Administration from Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Penn. In 2013, he was inducted into the Turnaround Management Association’s Hall of Fame.

Mr. Koch was a trustee of the Bloomfield Hills (Mich.) Board of Education for eight years and also served as a Trustee and Chairman of the finance committee of the Detroit Medical Center, as well as in a variety of board positions at what is now the Detroit Medical Center.
