This session will bring together key representatives from the lead organizations working on wireless vehicle communication systems for road transportation. The purpose of this meeting is to explore the elements of the wireless vision among these lead organizations for the connected vehicle, the roadside communication infrastructure, the public and private services that will be provided by these new systems, and the business models that will support this initiative. Possible topics may include:

  • What technologies are expected to be available today and over the next five to ten years?
  • What products, services, use cases, and business models are likely to take hold and predominate over this period of time?
  • What the course of deployment is likely to look like locally, nationally, and internationally over this period both in terms of the geographic deployment of infrastructure and the market penetration of systems in the vehicles?
  • What types of support and commitment are desired and expected from the various public and private partners and stakeholder to make this happen?
  • What needs to be known today or learned in a relatively short period of time to provide the essential technical and institutional support required?
  • How can the states, local government, federal government, automotive companies, automotive suppliers, telecommunications companies, software and hardware companies, consumer electronics companies, and a host of other key partners and states help this initiative in the short and long run?

Furthermore, an important theme that will be addressed is what types of test and development efforts and facilities are needed now and how can the states and local government leaders help to assure progress both on the infrastructure and the vehicle side of this equation.
