Mobility Innovation: Smart cars and digital highways transform driving today and revolutionize it for tomorrow. Revolutionary changes in vehicles and the highways that talk to each other are the source of profound changes in vehicle safety, congestion mitigation, road maintenance, vehicle quality, and driver satisfaction. This session will focus on how public policy requirements and market demand intersect to change our nation’s driving experience.

This panel will be comprised of senior-level officials and representatives from the federal government, the State of Michigan, automobile companies and suppliers to focus on the following questions:

  • What are the federal government’s public policy objectives with respect to our nation’s vehicles and public roads? How are the new technologies enabling this vision? What does this mean for drivers?
  • How do these new technologies help automakers improve the quality of their vehicles?
  • Does “safety sell”? How do these new technologies help Americans have a driving experience that reduces the likelihood of accidents and injuries, while improving their overall satisfaction with that driving experience?
  • What are the new products and supplier strategic business plans that ensure that smart cars and digital highways are here today, and dominate the marketplace tomorrow?
  • What is Michigan doing to remain the nation’s leader in transportation innovation and capitalize on the related goal of knowledge-based, high wage jobs in this new arena of mobility innovation?
