(PLM) Bridging
Engineering and Manufacturing through Product Information
The growth in scale and
globalization, and the increase in automotive product complexity
over the last thirty years, has made the issue of coordination between
engineering and manufacturing much more acute. There has been a
natural siloing of information as organizations coped with their
growth by increased specialization in the engineering and manufacturing
areas. However, relentless pressure to decrease costs and cycle
times means that engineering and manufacturing must work closer
together. PLM will play a pivotal role in bridging that gap.
This session will include senior executives from both engineering
and manufacturing who will present the role of PLM from their viewpoints,
and who will explore the issues of informational requirements at
the intersection of engineering and manufacturing. The speakers
will also present their views on how new information technology
will assist them in making the intersection between engineering
and manufacturing as seamless as possible and the impact this will
have on people, their processes, and their practices.
