Balancing Cost and Value
in the Automotive Enterprise
Information technology (IT) has played a key role in allowing
companies to integrate their internal and external processes. As
IT matures, companies are beginning to understand where it enables
them to perform activities better and faster and where it is not
proving as valuable. In particular, companies are trying to balance
the cost of implementing IT initiatives with the value it provides
their companies.
They are implementing
a variety of IT efforts in the context of intensifying global competition,
and the need for understanding the impacts of these efforts grows
as manufacturers and suppliers extend their activities globally.
Manufacturer, supplier, and information technology representatives
from key activities such as sales and marketing, product development,
supply chain management, and manufacturing discussed where they
are finding value in IT and where they see challenges. This seminar
identified how a company’s responses to these challenges may further
enhance—or erode—its competitive advantage, and panelists explored
the available strategic and tactical options.
