Strategies for Success

Thursday, August 3, 8:30 a.m. – Noon

Rewired for Success:  Is the Industry Sustainable for Capital Creation?

A great deal has been made about the re-alignment of the auto industry’s capital position since the recession of 2008 and 2009.  Yet, lingering questions remain – was it enough, will it stick, has the industry “learned its lesson this time?”  There is obviously enough uncertainty as industry and analysts alike have asked if the industry needs to “go through a recession to prove itself.”  This session will draw from the expertise of industry insiders and outside observers to:

  • Discuss if the industry is in a position to earn respect from the investment community that it can indeed not only survive the next downturn, but generate cash, pay dividends and make a positive return on invested capital.
  • Discover effective strategies for the industry in dealing with Wall Street, commercial bankers and its own boards.
  • Identify methods to create effective, strong, and successful organizations.

People, Product, and Process – Bringing the Innovation to Market

Automotive innovation is moving forward from the legacy automotive players, large technology disruptors, and start-up enterprises in- and out- of the current industry’s value chain.  Acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate initial public offerings, research consortiums, and portfolio investments are being formed that could radically change the momentum toward alternative propulsion systems, mobility services and product technology.  And, all of this change is being fueled by venture capital into mobility-related startups, and fundamental research in corporate, academic and government labs.

  • Learn from this diverse panel as they discuss successful pathways to bring new business models and technology to market.
  • Gain insights into unanticipated or underestimated challenges of bringing concepts to market, and a better understanding of the deals and organizational structures necessary for success.
  • Hear perspectives on how innovative technologies may re-align the automotive industry.
