Family Connection

A record number of Family Connection participants enjoyed several fun activities, including the opening pool party, and STEM activities hosted by Cooper Standard.  Each day began with a gathering breakfast so MBS family members could “connect” and explore some of what the Traverse City area has to offer.

This year’s activities included:

Sunday, July 30

Pool Party

4:30 pm – Governors Pool

If you are bringing your children to the Grand Traverse Resort, stop by the Opening Day Family Pool Party when you arrive at the Resort. Food and beverage will be provided by the pool for families to connect and enjoy some free time before the conference officially begins.

Zip Line Adventure at Mt. Holiday

10am | Noon | 1pm (limit 10 per time)

Mt. Holiday’s Zip Line Adventure is for thrill seekers of all ages. Complete with 10 unique zip lines this high speed adventure will let you experience scenic views of Northern Michigan like never before! Feel what it’s like to fly at speeds of 25-30 mph through the trees and across the hills of Mt. Holiday.

Weight Limits: 60 lbs – 260 lbs

Angelic Energy – Essential Oils Demonstration

9 – 11am – Grand Traverse Resort

Come learn about the amazing benefits of essential oils.  We will explore many wonderful facets of how essential oils can be used in your everyday life to support wellness and help you live a healthier lifestyle.  This course is designed for new essential oils users as well as those semi-seasoned in essential use. We will also be making a product for you to take home.

Scavenger Hunt & Outdoor Games

9 – 11am – Grand Traverse Resort

Drop off your children for a fun, team-based scavenger hunt. Teams will work together to collect miscellaneous objects, capture good memories, and have something to remember their stay at the Grand Traverse Resort. Afterwords, there will be plenty of outdoor lawn games for children to enjoy.

Wednesday, August 2

WaterFire Winery Private Tasting and Lunch at Pine-Hill Garden Cafe

9:30 am (limit 23 people)

Join us for a tour of the WaterFire Winery near Torch Lake where you’ll be expertly guided through the nuances of flavor and aroma experienced in the varietal of your choice.  The winery experts will pair your wine with a well-chosen cheese platter and provide the tale of how their wines have been carefully crafted.  Lunch at the Pine-Hill Garden Café follows the tour, and will include a demonstration and lecture on “Growing and Using Herbs.”

STEM Activity, Sponsored by Cooper Standard

9:30 am- 11:30 am

Bring your children to the second STEM Program for children of MBS attendees. Designed to introduce children ages 8 to 15 to careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), the program includes a science fair, as well as career talks to introduce children to the industry their parents work in. The event, sponsored by Cooper Standard featuring NASCAR Racing experiments and communications, hopes to inspire and excite participants about STEM careers, which continue to be the most in demand jobs.
