Roads to Renewal: A Summit on the Changing Automotive Industry
- How Communities Can Thrive
April 14 & 15, 2009
Renaissance Chicago Hotel
Chicago, Illinois
Close to 200 people attended this inaugural event, including Dr. Edward Montgomery, the Obama Administration’s Director of Recovery for Automotive Communities and Workers.
The Summit addressed the challenges that automotive communities face regarding the overall state of the economy, the industry's future, its impact on communities, and lessons learned from the development of the auto industry in the southern region of the United States.
A diverse group of speakers discussed a range of topics, including how communities can identify and utilize federal, state and nonprofit resources to reduce adverse impacts in the near term and work toward long-term successful recovery from economic and social dislocation. Other sessions focused on how communities and
other stakeholders can build on existing assets through strategic partnerships, investment in education and support for innovation.
