Full Description:

CAR has released a new study estimating the effect on the U.S. economy of the successful restructuring of General Motors.  This research memorandum estimates the value to the U.S. economy of the federal government’s intervention to prevent the failure of GM and Chrysler at the beginning of 2009.   CAR previously highlighted the impact of the pending bankruptcies on the economy, in research memorandums released in 2009 and 2010.  This updated memorandum provides an evaluation of the decision to provide funding to help General Motors and Chrysler through the bankruptcies and the broader implications for the U.S. economy.
